Hi there,

It’s now time to announce the winners of our license suggestions contest which started on July 6th. Again we would like to thank you all for your imagination and all the excellent entries. It’s always hard to pick 5 winners, but since we really have to here they are:

woodlandbunny: Bioshock 2 (Yes this is our personal favourite, we loved the first one more than any game of this console generation)

Grey1986: Mass Effect 2 (Another hotly anticipated sequel, sci-fi setting, what more could  you ask?)

fatchins: Heavy Rain (Impressive visually, dark and deep scenario, origami :) , this is a great suggestion)

scowat: Batman: Arkham Asylum? (Too late to make tees, but this is probably the biggest surprise of the year. A good Batman game? YES!!!)

Mimachan: God Of War (The third iteration is on our short list for sure. Classic.)

Each of you will be contacted soon on Twitter to pick your poison :)

Thanks again, and stay tuned for the next contest…something tells me there will be brand new tees to win this time around…

Whether you were nice enough to buy it, lucky enough to win it, or stupid enough to steal it, it doesn’t matter: you are eligible to win another LVLP tee of your choice!

All you have to do is send us a picture of you, or a friend, wearing one of our tees. If we like your pic, and you agree on us publishing it, we will gladly send you an extra t-shirt of your choice (subject to stock availability).

There are no particular guidelines here so be original! No offensive content obviously, but the rest is pretty much up to you. Be natural and don’t hesitate to show your personality :)

This contest is valid until further notice, and submissions should be sent to info@levelupwear.com.

Get to your cameras!

New Contest!!!

July 6, 2009 LVLP Team Leave a comment

After our hugely successful Retro contest, here is another chance for 5 lucky LVLP fans to win a t-shirt of their choice!

Since we are very imaginative @ LVLP, the concept is totally unchanged, except for one part: we want you to give 1 suggestion (and only one will count) of a future game that you would like to see on LVLP tees. I repeat: the game must be an unreleased IP, but it should at least have been officially announced (so no ‘Kid Icarus Wii’ Nintendo fanboys!!!).

Again, same rules, send us your suggestion via Twitter and the 5 best ones (totally subjectively picked by ourselves) will win a fantastic LVLP tee of his/her choice. If by any chance more than one of you suggests the same game an innocent hand will draw the lucky winner.

EDIT: The deadline for this contest is August 15th, 2009.

Good luck to you all :)

Retro Contest Winners

April 24, 2009 LVLP Team Leave a comment

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Our retro contest is now over, thank you all for your excellent entries! We’ve had a really hard time selecting the winners, as there are at least 10 proposed games with great tee potential. But life is unfortunately full of difficult choices and today we had to make one.

Without further ado, here are the winners:

Okami (@VariableGear)
Shenmue (@mikeBithell)
Jet Set Radio (@Woffls)
Megaman NES (@shaunmcilroy)
All LucasArts Games (@TURTLEGIRL73)

The criteria used were the graphics of the game (important for the designs), the nostalgia factor (how strong the game is in people’s minds) but also the relative originality of the entry. The latter factor is important because we don’t want to create tees that have already been made several times by other brands (like Galaga, Pacman, Tetris etc…). This doesn’t mean we don’t think they are good ideas, on the contrary, but we are trying hard to provide you with fresh, original tees.

Now a word about the LucasArts games: we could not choose just one because they all are perfect for this contest. The winner for that entry was drawn by an innocent hand, sorry for the others who didn’t get the same luck ;) Same thing for Jet Set Radio…

We will contact the winners on Twitter.

Huge thanks again to you all for your participation and please don’t throw us stones if you lost this time, we have many contests coming on our Twitter :)

Retro Contest: free tees for the winners!

Hi everyone,

We just launched a little contest on Twitter, let’s formalize this a little bit before it goes out of control :)

To give you some background, we are putting together a list of cool retro games to base our tees on. Since you guys are the community, we want to hear your voice, so all you have to do is give us one suggestion via Twitter or by commenting on this post (only one game per person please). It’s going to be a tough choice, we know! Unfortunately we have to keep it that way to make the contest possible.

We will then choose one game among those, the one that we prefer (yes, we still have a say in this, sorry!).

Then of course we will choose 5 lucky winners among those who proposed the selected game. Each one will receive an awesome LVLP tee of his/her choice!

Deadline for this contest is April 23rd 2009.

Surprise us!

M-Rated x Nintendo = major failure?

April 14, 2009 LVLP Team Leave a comment

chaingun_assassin_tif_jpgcopy

M-Rated titles are not exactly flowing on Nintendo’s consoles. It’s always been like that, but maybe even more so with the Wii and DS and their largely casual audience.

The latest reports (presented by Gamasutra) show that the excellent GTA: Chinatown Wars is a relative flop on the dual-screen, scoring only 200,000 copies  in March according to EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich (the information is being contested by analyst Michael Pachter from Wedbush Morgan but it’s not really the point here). This again fuels the debate on the unprofitability of the Mature games released exclusively on Nintendo consoles.

But what’s the problem really? Clearly, the Nintendo audience is mostly composed of casual gamers who flee at the sight of violence. But more importantly, the reason for this is the lack of mature games on the Nintendo systems acting as  a deterrent for so-called ‘adult’ gamers in the first place.  It’s a question of the big N’s image, of course,  and the eternal chicken and egg problem in this industry. Developers won’t make adult games for Nintendo because they have the wrong audience, and since only a handful dare to try the experience the attempt as a whole is too weak to expand the Nintendo crowd to the more mature gamers.  All this results in relatively poor financial results for the braver ones such as Rockstar’s Chinatown Wars, Platinum Games’ MadWorld and Grasshopper Manufacture’s No More Heroes.

Now what’s interesting is that if you look at these last 3 games, you will notice that they are all brilliant, innovative experiences in their own way. Talented developers who aren’t afraid to try the experience are usually extremely careful about crafting their games as much as possible. Moreover, the mix of Nintendo’s great control schemes and delirious mature themes (especially in Suda 51’s maddeningly fun NMH) seems to be working pretty well.  These great experiences are just too rare not to be mentioned, and for us it all comes down to this: if the rarity of mature oriented content on the Nintendo consoles means that we will end up with only the very best of them then well, there is really no reason to argue or complain.

LVLP now on Twitter

We are weak, weak people. We have finally succumbed to the peer pressure and the inevitable fact that we cannot continue to be old, out-of-date gamers who just like to make videogame tees and not really talk about it.

The worst part is, we are enjoying it! We know “tweet” regularly and we even have a couple of followers already, can you believe that? Best part for you guys is, Twitter is going to be the main place to check our latest product updates, and to win gazillions of tees as we will organize regular contests from now on.

Now the only thing left for you to do is follow us here!

Bloody Mad

Boys and girls (or probably just boys but you never know),

LVLP just got seriously violent as we have decided to team up with video game legend SEGA and the extremely talented Platinum Games studio (you know, the guys behind Resident Evil, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Devil May Cry, and other similar low profile games), to release these exclusive MadWorld t-shirts now on preorder at our brand new shiny online store.

Most importantly, these t-shirts, in addition to being available to Europe, Australia and New Zealand, are also exclusively available to the US and Canada!

Beware though, the prints are going to be extremely limited. Also, our promo price will only be valid until March 31st. You have 2 reasons right there to hurry up and order, in addition to the natural awesomeness of the tees of course…:-)
